I'm sure you've seen this topic in the header discussed. Apparently
there are two schools: those that think the recent statement along the
lines of the header here by a Microsoft rep at a certain conference
was simply designed to make MSFT sexy, since lots of programmers only
know Javascript and HTML5 is 'hot' (whatever HTML5 may mean to you, as
it's not standardized yet), while the other school thinks that since
the Dev group and the Office group within Microsoft don't like each
other, and the Office group thinks MFC is adequate and .NET is
overrated (despite the push since 10 years ago to make .NET
'everywhere' within MSFT), that WPF, Win Forms, Silverlight and .NET
in general will be deprecated. Not outright abolished, but
deprecated. Already the dude Guthrie? that was in charge of the Dev
group has left to head the Azure group within MSFT. So it's plausible
that slowly .NET will be left to rot on the vine. A slow death not
unlike "FoxPro" if you remember that procedural/oo language.

What say you? I personally think that harebrained as it may be, there
is some truth behind the latter school of thought, and it would not
totally shock me if .NET is 10 years from now is 10th instead of 4th
on this list: http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html
(note the "lua" scripting language is surging, in 10th place!)

First it should be obvious that HTML/CSS/JS can not replace anything
but presentation layer, so you can say with certainty that
..NET, C# etc. will not go away.

Second if you consider Microsofts history for presentation layers, then
it seems very likely they will nor remove any existing presentation
layer technologies. It will just be yet another thing for
..NET developers to learn.

Yes but what about Silverlight, WinForms, WPF? But I see your point.

Right. Deprecated means 'not emphasized', it does not mean extinct.
So perhaps (as I have speculated elsewhere) HTML5 is the 'new' (old)
Silverlight in new clothes.

Greetings from Hungary! That's right, you're not in Hungary.
