Why when I call microsoft I do not get a support person who speaks english?
I am calling from the United States of America and when I call Microsofts
Support number I am connected to a tech I am talking to someone in India.
Thats India not Indiana and they do not speak english clearly and it takes
hours because of the langauge problem. Does anyone know what number I can
call at Microsoft to get the US techs? Or does Microsoft not have any more
english speaking people working for them. I have a problem with SP2
installed and I have spent 3 hours on the phone because the techs do not
understand my request. This is very frustrating and I am not happy with the
fact that I have to speak to non english speaking techs. I am sure that
these techs now what they are doing but the communication skills are very
poor. They are very pleasant May I help you , thank you etc but they still
are unable to communicate the problem and resolution. Anyone else out there
having the same problem?

Ask to speak with another technician and explain that you can not
understand their broken English.

You can also call support, pay for a support event, and get a US based
technician quickly.

Tom:

This forum is the best place to get answers to problems with SP2 or
anything else concerning XP. But remember, it's a peer to peer forum
and those personnel who are here (including the MS MVPs) are all
volunteers. Just ask and be patient. There is no need to call MS
support with the level of expertise that exists right here.

Rock is trying to help you, why not allow him to follow up with other
suggestions?

Regards.

It's called outsourcing. Many tech companies are doing it to cut costs. An East Indian
tech person will do the work for a few dollars an hour, versus having to pay an American
tech person much more. Call Dell tech support, and regardless of the young enthusiastic
American tech people that are misleadingly shown in the Dell TV spots, you will be
probably be speaking with someone in India or Pakistan. Even though English is spoken in
those countries, I've found a definite lack of communication, and have never had
satisfactory results. For the most part, I'd keep getting the same answer, as if by rote.
If I would say "You have already said that, and it is not the solution," the tech person
would repeat the same solution. It was very frustrating. Usually I am able to find fixes
on my own. The few times that I've tried telephone tech support with MS, Dell, or HP, I
have had to find my fixes from other sources. Even speaking with American Microsoft tech
people, they seemed not to have much tech knowledge. They would type key words and
phrases, search their database for a solution, and read it back to me, as if they had no
real idea of what they were reading. I now only use the internet (news groups/private
Windows XP tech web sites/forums/Google searches/etc.) . As the previous poster
mentioned, Microsoft does have pay support options. Before availing yourself of that
service, try posting here, typing as concisely as possible what the problem is on the
Subject line (never use a catch all Subject line like "HELP!). Then in the body of the
post: Describe in full detail what the problem is, when it first occurred, what you were
doing when it first occurred, and any error messages. Or, if the problem always existed,
just a type a detailed description.

If your Windows XP was shipped with your new PC, it is an OEM version of Windows XP, and
NOT the responsibility of Microsoft support. But, it IS the responsibility of tech
support of the maker of your system (e.g. Dell, HP, Compaq) IF you are still within the
warranty period of the system. You can still post here though, and chances are that you
will get a quick response with a fix for your problem, or a response telling you where to
go to get the help that you need.

Even people who have English as their first language can have problems
communicating with each other.

I can remember one hilarious incident where a family from the American
south (Alabama I think) was trying to order some food from a server
who was recently arrived from London England and had the genuine
cockney accent. You could have sold tickets to that one.

Not only that, I don't think they've even employed technicians any more. I
nearly lost my legs once when I paid up for support and the first thing they
did was do a web\KB search on the web. It didn't matter that I did a more
thorough one than they did. They offered to keep the incident open until
resolution, I too my money back and solved it myself.

Microsoft employs indians for peanuts but it also employs MVPs for nothing. I suggest try an MVP (likely to be based in North America or Europe) who will be patient with you as they have nothing better to do in life. They are retired ex service men/women and are just passing time by communicating with young people like you. Their own siblings have disowned them because they are too boring!. They only talk about SP2!

Uncle Bill knows a thing or two how to exploit english speaking MVPs. Have you tried a polish jew instead? David H Lipman can help you. He is collecting funds for his zionist movement to eradicate palestinians and muslims from this planet. He has a big nose because the air is free!!
