Does anyone have experience in speech recognition
software for the physically handicapped?
MS Speech is supposed to be able to control Outlook,
Explorer etc, but I cannot get this option 'turned on'.
Is it better to purchase ViaVoice or Dragon or another
software?

XP supports voice recognition. However it does not include the
components for it. Programs, such as Office XP or Office 2003 that
include voice recognition features, can be installed. While Office's
voice recognition will work with some other portions of Windows, it
may not do everything that is needed. Products such as ViaVoice or
Dragon may be more suitable. I believe there are trial versions of
ViaVoice and Dragon that can be downloaded.
