Humpty Dumpty

I had a problem of excessive resources consuming by Avast! and IObit
Security softwares.
Following the advise of a member of this group, I uninstalled all my AV and
antispy programs and installed instead Microsoft Security Essentials, which
also runs in the background.
This did not solve the problem: their monitoring file MsMpEng.exe is even
more memory and CPU usage consuming than the previous programs that I
uninstalled. Or, maybe, if you add them together it is about the same.
In MS web forums I could learn that this problem affects other people, too.
For instance:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en/msestart/thread/ff286d70-ea06-45bb-b057-6f79ca7a01bb

Is there a way to reduce the load?

TIA,
Humpty

When and for how long are you seeing this? I've got MSE installed on this
WinXP SP3 box and currently Task Manager/Processes listing for MsMpEng.exe
is showing ~24,250 K memory use with a peak of ~171,000 K.

That being said, this newsgroup is NOT the appropriate venue for such
discussions. If you've not done so already, begin a new thread about your
issues in http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en/msestart/thread
forum.

Thank you for your answer. Yes, the figures you mention are similar to the
ones I get. Your machine is probably better equipped than mine, so you don't
feel the burden. I do. I suppose I must get used to it..
I posted my problems in the social.answers.microsoft forums only to learn
that many people share my difficulties. That is it.

well, if your resources are basically
low,

then the programs will consume all
that you have and want more.

so how much ram do you have?

This is a very low-end laptop, my friend, and I'm not seeing any such
performance issues.

Then again, I've never had any IOBit crapware installed either. Who knows
what that's done to your computer?

Well, thank you anyway. I already feel better (it was the same when the
doctor told me that I my blood analysis are OK)
