MS is the author of the official AT&T Unix for Intel processors. MS wrote their own Unix clone called Xenix before linux was even thought of. Most people consided MS to be a Unix company (that's what they used at MSCorp and what they wrote Dos on). Then they wrote a better OS and swapped to that.
