Microsoft Outlook Slows down

Hi,

I do have Outlook 2002. I have Win XP installed with Athlon 1.4GHz,
256 MB Ram. I have large archive files (around 800 MB in the current
folders and additional 5GB in the archives). I see the Outlook slows
down - sometimes it takes a few minutes for Outlook to mark 'readed'
10 messages. Also switching between folders make take from few seconds
up to a minute. Naturally it does matter how many other applications I
use, specially if I use large page file, but still it is strange for
me. Additionally I have defragmented my disk - it helped a bit, but
still not to much.

Is there any way I may keep Outlook efficient and keep my archives
avaiable?

I hope your Archive of 5gb is spread across several archive pst's as there
is a 2gb limit on a pst size. Though problems can occur once greater than
1.6gb.
I assume you have all your Archives open, within OL. If that is the case, if
you close all but your current pst, do you regain the performance?
Is it neccessary to keep all the pst's open, all of the time?

Good point. I have checked my pst files and found out that my current
pst forlder is 1.6 GB!

If you can see them in your Folder List along with Outlook Today, then they
are open. Archives don't need to appear in the folder list in order to
work.

Right-click and choose Close.
