Hi:
I am using two different approaches (HTTP and MAPI) in addition to POP3/SMTP
method for my paid MSN email account, that is the same with hotmail.
For MAPI method, it has to install "Outlook Connector" add-in which I am
sure you can find it from MSN customer service. I forgot where did I
initially download it.
If you installed Outlook Connector, it will do the setup for you and use
Passport for sign-in and then add another email account to Outlook and
folders.
Alternatively, you can also manually add HTTP account by going to Tools,
E-mail accounts, Add a new e-mail account, click Next, and select HTTP and
click Next.
In the account information, type your name, and email address, and the HTTP
Mail Service Provider information will be automatically changed based on the
email address information you've entered - that is MSN or Hotmail.
For Logon information, you have to type the full user name including domain
name (@msn.com or @hotmail.com) and enter your password, and click "Remember
password".
You have to select "Log on using SPA" and after that, Outlook will add the
account and folders for you.
If you have more than one email accounts, you have to select the account
when you send out the new message.
Final note - I use MAPI and HTTP as a backup for each of my two systems
using MSN's POP3/SMTP as the primary email accounts.
Although not too often, MSN's POP3 account sometime would have problems but
the MAPI or HTTP is still working fine. In that case, I would use either to
do the work.
PS: I am sure you can also find relevant information from customer service
about setting up POP3/SMTP for your paid Hotmail email account in Outlook.
The method is similar except the incoming and outgoing server information
are different.
Good luck and hope this will help.
