Microsoft .NET Compact Framework (Core Reference)
by Andy Wigley, Stephen Wheelwright, Mark Sutton

Good day

We are considering buying this book for our first project with the CF.
Previously we have used AppForge.

One can certainly find the info online if you have the time but we are
making use of a contractor and don't want him to have to spend most of
his time online looking for answers every time he hits a snag.

Rather we hope that the book covers the philosophy / paradigm of the CF
and developing for mobile devices, especially using SQLCE. We have
already decided to buy a few books on C# and the normal Framework.

What are your views about the book?
Thanks

I'm presently using that book to support me on developping
smart devices apps.
This is my first go on smart apps and the books answers
almost all my questions.
If you've never code in C#, I would advise you to have
other books on the subject as the CF is ujst a subset
of .NET Framewrk with classes in addition. Those classes
and their use are really well described in the Ms book.
Only one problem, the sample downloaded have a few
compatibily problem with my VS 2003 issue. Maybe yours is
better.
Enjoy it.

The book is certainly a must have, especially if you already have books on
C#, because the book really focusses on the .NET CF and the differences with
the full .NET Framework. Besides the book, this newsgroup is a very valuable
source of information, as is www.opennetcf.org.

It is the only decent .NETCF book around.
Also worth getting are ADO.NET and XML Web Services as
they are both relevant and deal with each topic in more
detail than the .NETCF Core.
