Microsoft hi-jacking my desktop & browser?

Suddenly the yellow labels is shown BEHIND the bar. Only
top of them can be seen, not the text. Sometimes the
datelabel doesn't show att all. Happens both on my XP Pro
& 98SE comps.
E.g. in order to seen the date I have to open the dialogue
box for adjusting date & time.
Also, sometimes labels change from yellow/black text to
black/white text.
Bar options are: One line bar, Always on top, No automatic
hiding, Show clock in Systray.
Desktop option: Windows Classic (in XP Pro), no personal
customization at all.

I.E.6 default homepage is sometimes changed from my
explicitly selected http://www.somethingother.xxx to
http://www.microsoft.com/bla-bla-bla-bla-....

Makes me feel like asking: What other information are
changed at random - by the OS? System policies? User
rights? My customer files, ledgers?

It's just a system bug - one that has never been corrected. Don't be so
paranoid, please!

Thanks.
Good to to know it's "just a bug".
Wanting to know what can be trusted and what can not - has
that been defined that as paranioa? Recently?
