I work with spreadsheets and consider myself fairly knowledgeable in working
with Excel. There is a function that would make data entry much easier for me
since I enter data by touch. For example, when I enter data on a spreadsheet
and reach the end of the row then I'm ready to start at the next row in the
first column. As of right now I am using my arrow keys to go down to the next
row and go all the way over to the beginning of the next row. Most of the
data that I enter are numbers so therefore I only use one hand 99.9% of the
time. I would like to find out if there is a way of having the cursor do the
same thing automatically without having to use other keys to make it happen.
When I reach the end of a row and enter the data that I want what I would
like to do is to hit the enter key and have the cursor go to the next row
first column. This function will allow me to enter data much faster and allow
me more time for other office duties. Would appreciate any and all help thats
is available. Thank you.

Do the folllowing

Highlight the entire area you intend to fill in with data
e.g cells A1:D10 (the upper most left cell[here A1] will
be white and if you type you will neter data into this
cell)

Then enter data in A1, tab across to B1 enter data and so
on. When you get to cell D1 and press <Tab> you will
revert to A2...

I think this is what you need.

Several ways to do this....here are a couple.

Teach yourself to use the TAB key while moving across the row until the last
entry, then hit Enter key.

This will move you back to start column down one row.

OR

Assume columns A through G to have data entered.

Select those columns then Format>Cells>Protection. "unlock" those cells.

Now Tools>Protection>Protect Sheet.

Using the TAB key only will move across A to G then back to A down one row.

If using Excel 2002 or 2003 when Protecting the sheet, you will have the
option of unchecking "allow users to select locked cells".

Then set your ENTER key to move right after entry. See Tools>Options>Edit for
settings.

Since you seem to prefer to use the "ten key" touch method to enter your
numbers, which means that you want to use the <Enter> key exclusuvely,
here's an option you might care to explore.

You can change the direction of cursor movement, perhaps only temporarily
during data input, to go from left to righ, instead of down.
You can then select the *entire range* that will encompass your data entry,
and then the <Enter> key will take you from left to right and *then*, take
you down to the next row, and back to the first column *automatically*.

<Tools> <Options> <Edit> tab,
And change the direction of "Move Selection After Enter" to "Right".
