Microsoft donates 5 million for rewards

Microsoft had given 5 Million dollars to be used as rewards for anyone
that helps to track down and prosecute anyone that creates and or releases
virus.
2 - $250,000.00 rewards out of the 5 million has been allocated to pay a
reward to anyone that can identify the creators of the SoBig, and Blaster
virus.

Although this may help find those responsible for the SoBig and Blaster
virus, what could well happen in the future is that some enterprising virus
creator will get the bright idea, that if they create a new nasty virus that
will cause as much if not more trouble then either SoBig or Blaster. That
they could simply find some young ScriptKiddy that is looking for a way to
either make their presence known to the virus writing community or that
wants their 15 minuets of fame.
Then after having wrote the nasty virus and then found such a
ScriptKidde, the virus author could convince the script kiddy of the virus
authors benevolence and only wanting to help the ScriptKiddy in their hopes
to explode onto the virus scene, and then after the virus author takes steps
to ensure that the virus source code can not be traced back to them, the
virus author either simply goes where there is some sort of anonymous
wireless internet connection and then sends the source code to the
ScriptKiddy that way or some other way which ensures that the ScriptKiddy
can never prove that the source code was given to them instead of the
scriptkiddy actually writing it.
Then after the ScriptKiddy compiles and releases the virus and it
causes sufficient trouble for the internet community, the actual virus
author then turns in the script kiddy for having created and releasing the
virus. The hoped for result being that the actual virus writer receives a
hefty reward for turning in the script kiddy and the script kiddy gets
prosecuted.

Pity they can't spend that much on making their products secure in the first

I was thinking the same way until I figured out that the pranksters
are probably a lot smarter than your MS crowd.

Reminds me of one of the Mayberry episodes where this crook kept
breaking into this hen house and stealing eggs. No matter what Barney
did, the eggs would be gone next morning right out from under barney's
watching eye. Barney invested big bucks into sophisticated surveyance
devices and put out a reward but the eggs kept on disappearing each
morning.

Finally the thief was turned in by Opie who noticed that Earnestine
(the guy that throws rocks through windows) was selling eggs to the
local market each morning. I forget now how he was doing it but the
moral of the story was that the crook was smarter than the hen house
guard.

Someone is stealing Bill Gate$ eggs and neither him nor his hand
picked horde of bright shining little stars can figure it out so they
just throw what they have a lot of at the problem.... Money!

It takes .00002% of a human's full brain capacity
to understand the concept and technical process
behind the operation of a turn signal.

Observations show that most humans don't have
the .00002% capacity required....

John, I'll bet you $ 5M doesn't go very far in software system development.
I don't know what M/S spends on developing a next generation OS, but I'll
bet much more than $ 5M is spent well before they are ready to do any alpha
testing. The real question is, do you think they'll actually *spend* that $
5M? I say they'll never get close.
