microphone

I can't get my mic to work. Tried everything .I had on board sound card but
it's no good,bought new sound card stillno good,tried another mic no
good.Lost. Please Help.
 
Silly question but are you sure you are plugging it into the correct place?
Usually colour coded but not always. What exactly have you tried

Do you know if the microphone is/was working on a different PC?

Have you tried "wiggling" the mic's cable to see if the cable might be
defective.
