Microphone Problem

I have a Dell Inpiron 8200 Notebook with a Intel 8280/CA/CAM
AC'97 Audio Controller. The microphone level is very low to non-existant.
I have checked all the Control Panel settings. It looks like a Driver
problem to me.
The Microphone/s work on other systems. This has been tried on the Microsoft
Sound Recorder, Audacity digital editor and the Text to speech functions.
Any help would be appreciated

Realtek has a Vista beta driver on their web site. It's possible that might
help, if Dell hasn't made some unusual changes to your hardware that would
preclude using it. You could give it a try and revert to the old driver if
it doesn't work.
