microphone not working

JB

here's a dumb question:

Why doesn't my microphone work? Im using a soundblaster live value card and
have a microphone plugged in to the proper input. In volume and recording
controls I have made sure that the mic is not muted. I have tried a second
microphone just to make sure. Im sure there is a simple solution that I am
missing. Thanks for the help.

Click OPTIONS|ADJUST VOLUME|FOR RECORDING. Select (checkmark) the box
for the mic, below the slider - which should be set at a reasonable volume.
This should turn on the mic.

Try another mic, and be sure that it has the correct type of plug, and
that the plug is seated fully into the jack..

Incidentally, to avoid the ragged, short lines that you see in the quoted
portion of your replies, consider fixing Outlook Express. See

an end to this longstanding mess.

Humm. Outta ideas. The same card works fine here. Perhaps it is damaged?
