messenger service

Does anybody know how to stop the windows messenger
service? I don't have aol instant messenger or anything. I
am on a Local area network so I stay online. every time I
get up in the morning I see this instant window messenger
on my screen displaying "go to this website to stop ads
like this your windows messenger is open" Can this be
stopped...please help. please reply at

You can disable services using Computer Management/services and select the
appropriate service. However your experience indicates that you are in need of a
firewall and are vulnerable to attacks. Go to http://scan.sygatetech.com/ to do
a quick assessment for basic vulnerabilities. If you are on a lan, then the
perimeter firewall needs to be checked for configuration and there are also free
personal firewalls available. --- Steve
