messenger service popups

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to shut this

You can turn off Messenger Service to stop the popups but the real problem,
open ports, is properly addressed by either turning on Windows Firewall,
(good) installing XPSP2 which turns on Windows Firewall by default (better)
or installing a third party firewall(best) like the free version of Zone
Alarm.
