Messenger Service Pop-Ups

While working either in MS Office or while using MS
Internet Explorer, I am constantly hit with pop-up
advertisements in grey "Messenger Service" boxes. Most
are ads for how to do away with these particular pop-ups,
but others run the whole laundry list of ads.

Is this a MS problem as indicated by some of the messages
in the boxes and if so, what is the MS fix without buying
their advertised solution, or is there no MS fix and a
commercial product will have to be purchased and
installed?

Any help is appreciated.

Get a firewall like Kerio or ZoneAlarm

Applying the WinXP firewall to your connection will stop these.
