Messenger service on servers

I need to disable messenger on all my Win2000 or WinXP machines.
If I apply this GPO in the root domain of course I will also disable that
one on servers. What's the implication of disabling messenger service on
servers ?
 
The only thing I can think of is it will break any administrative alerts you
have setup. Otherwise, none.

In fact, it is oft recommended that this is disabled, when reading about
which services are safe to disable for those wanting to lock systems down.
