Messenger Login Crashes Cable Modem

Whenever I start up the computer and MSN Messenger trys
to log on it does not log in plus it causes me to loose
ability to use my internet connection. I then EXIT the
startup, reset my cable modem and internet is fine. This
happens all the time. Any ideas. By the way, I have
another computer using the same modem (different IP) that
auto signs into MSN Messenger and it works fine 100% of
the time.

I had that hapening to me all the time and what I did was
this:
Click the Start button.
Click Run
Type: control userpasswords2 and then click OK
User accounts will be displayed. Go to Advanced.
Go to .Net Passport Wizard and associate your email
address with your password.

That solved my problem of having to reset my cable modem
every time I tried to use the messenger.
