I messed up computer by checking or unchecking something. was in run
password2 something and this window popped up with all these options one was
about other people using the computer. this morning i get 2 error messages,
and i had to log on-never had to before. one message asked for the
administrator's password- i have no clue where to find it, can't go back and
do the run under me because I am not in the administrator. the other error
message is about my start up changed and i need to click the startup tab and
choose normal- can't find it and can't do run misconfig to fix it because of
the 1st mess up with the administrator password.

In a nut shell how do i reset or find the administrator password?

In a nutshell, you should have changed the Name "Administrator" to your log-on name in the "control
userpasswords2" command as you were finishing it.
Keep watch, someone will reference you to free software to bypass and change the administrator
password if there is one. I don't have those references handy. (You can Google for them).
However, are you sure there is a password for the Administrator?
Have you tried just leaving the password box blank?

Something here should help.

Next time be sure you know what commands you have issued to get into what
dialog boxes, and then know what changes you made in case they need to be
reversed. It doesn't help much when your post says "by checking or
unchecking something". Fortunately we can read between the lines. The
command you issued from Start | Run was control userpasswords2.

You should always keep a record somewhere of passwords.

Whatever I did wiped out the administrator and the person at Dell took 2
hours with me trying to figure out how to get it back. There never was a
password to start with or so she said, and if there had been one I assigned I
would have it wrote in my password/user name notebook on the desk at the
computer. Sorry I wasn't specific enough in my wording what I did but I
couldn't forsee any reason to remember it at the time, only after restarting
did it become apparent I should have wrote it down.

This utility can be used to reset the Administrator password to blank.
