Messages received twice

Most of my incoming messages are received twice at the
same time in my IN Box. I have Windows XP and Office XP,
Cable modem. It didn't use to be that way, but I don't
remember how, when or how it changed to flood me with
duplication. How can I arrange to receive my messages
only once?
 
If you have two or more POP/IMAP accounts defined, is each account checking
the same mailbox?
