Vista. I have several folders in Windows Mail. I can see the number of
messages in each by looking at Local Folders. The one that has the greatest
number of messages (1313 total) won't show any messages when I look at it.
Instead it says 0 messages, There are no items in this view. It says the
same thing even after I send a new message to the folder and watch Mail
receive and acknowledge it. (Show All Messages is selected.) Using Find to
look for a message known to be in the folder also comes up empty. Other
folders behave normally.
Possible clue: Shortly before this problem, hundreds of old messages
duplicated themselves anew into the folder, for no apparent reason. I
suspected this was a glitch with our email server, but maybe that's wrong.
After many of the duplicates were deleted, suddenly nothing would display.
I remember an older problem with OE in which the Contact list would
disappear after reaching 1000 entries, so, thinking this problem might be
similar, I deleted several thousand old messages from Sent Items (then
emptied Deleted Items). This made no difference. Total number of messages
in all folders is now quite modest, less than 2000.
