Messages Count on Start Up Screen

Using Outlook Express we transfered around a few e-mail
accounts from one user to another. Unfortunately there
were some unread e-mails in place at the time. Now the
User Accounts in Windows XP state that there are unread
messages but these messages do not actually exist in the
old location and can not be read. Is ther any way
to 'reset' the messages count and make the Windows XP
sign on screen data useful again?

Download and install tweakui for xp and use its repair mail count feature or
use it to turn the mail count off completely.

Or edit the registry and delete the mail accounts you don't want:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail
