There's a pop and the message is, "Your computer is infected! Windows has
detected spyware infection." Then there's a blurb about protecting my
computer. I'm running EZ Armor, and there's no spyware. This appears to be an
update marketing gimmick from Microsoft. I clicked on the bubble and went to
Ultimate Defender, which wants you to buy it for $39.95. HOW DO I TURN THIS
BOGUS WARNING MESSAGE OFF? It's driving me nuts. Thanks.

The message you are seeing is NOT - repeat, NOT - from Microsoft. The
Microsoft product is called Windows Defender (and it is FREE) to all users
of a "legal" Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating system. Please note the
name of the product that you are instructed to purchase for $39.95 (Ultimate
Defender). NOT the same thing at all.

I suggest that you clean up your system as it is, indeed, infected
already - by the same guys that are trying to get you to spend money.

You can download Ad-Aware (FREE) from www.lavasoftusa.com

You can also get Spybot Search and Destroy (FREE) from
http://www.safer-networking.org/

You can also get Windows Defender (beta version) from the Microsoft web site
if you are legal
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
