message at startup

When I click on an Excel document in the recently used
section of the start menu, it launches Excel but always
displays a message stating that C:\program
Files\DMW\DMW_97.xla can't be found. I click OK and it
goes on past this and opens the document, but it is
annoying to have to look at this message every time.
Anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it?

The .xla indicates it was probably
a previous [3rd party?] add-in
which used to exist

Try clicking Tools > Add-Ins

Under "Add-Ins available":
scroll through and search amongst
the *checked* boxes for something which
resembles the descriptives for the initials: "DMW"
(I don't know what "DMW" is, sorry)

If you can find* it, uncheck the box > OK
*gotta use some fuzzy logic here <g>

and the message should no longer appear
the next time Excel is opened

(All Add-Ins checked in the
"Add-Ins available" are loaded
each time Excel opens)

Hi Baudraud,
When I click on an Excel document in the recently used
section of the start menu, it launches Excel but always
displays a message stating that C:\program
Files\DMW\DMW_97.xla can't be found.

An addin in Excel is selected, but the file has been deleted from your
computer.
Start Excel, select Tools, addins.
Now try to uncheck each one that is checked.
The one that is missing will (when one tries to uncheck it) cause Excel
to prompt whether it can be removed from the list. Answer Yes.
Make sure you check the ones that you could uncheck before closing the
dialog.

Thanks gentlemen. Unchecked the add-in and it worked like
a charm. Baud

Just to share info...I think it was an old Excel Date Migration wizard used
to upgrade from Excel 97 to Excel 2000.

It is mentioned near the bottom of this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...AE-4718-4732-832E-5FCDAB03DAE9&displaylang=en

Here's a short copy...

If you upgrade from Excel 97 to Excel 2000 after installing the Date
Migration Tools, you won't see the Date Migration command on the Excel 2000
Tools menu. You will need to locate and load the add-in program:
1.. On the Tools menu, click Add-ins.
2.. Click Browse, and in the Look in box, click the folder where you
installed the Date Migration Tools, by default the DMW subfolder of your
Program Files folder.
3.. Click file DMW_97.XLA, and then click OK.
4.. In the Add-Ins dialog box, select the Microsoft Excel Date Migration
Tools check box.
Again, just info... :>)
