message alert not working

Message alert doesnt notify me when a new email arrives, I must click s/r
periodically. Have turn off my firewall and alert still doesnt appear. I'm
using OL Express for my personal email and OL for my business email. A
setting must have changed since it was working previosly. All proper boxes
are checked. Please help with any suggestion. Thanks
 
This is well hidden in Tools, options, email options, advanced email options.
And then you must set up auto polling in Tools, options, Mail Setup,
Send/receive. No less than every 10 minutes or it won't work right.
