Mesenger is trying to act like a server

Mike

In the past 30 minutes, Zone Alarm Pro has alerted me 12
times that msmsgs.exe is trying to act like a server, each
time with a different port number. MOops, make that 13 --
it just happened again. I have previously allowed the
first instance, but repeated alerts with different ports
has me concerned.

Any idea what might be going on? I'm not even sure what
msmsgs.exe is supposed to do.

Greetings Mike,

Msmsgs.exe is Windows Messenger. Do you happen to have Norton Antivirus installed by any
chance? If so, recent versions of Norton Antivirus added a new "instant messaging scanning"
feature, which can conflict with Messenger and cause it to also keep starting. To stop it,
open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System
Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then
Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger (or Windows Messenger depending on
version) and click OK.
