Merging

When merging for letters or labels and completing the final step "merge to new document", I get a blank page between every letter or label sheet. Is this a bug in Word?

Does your normal.dot have headers or footers? Mailmerge assumes not and can
behave strangely if you do.

A "blank page" that you can see in Print Layout view is not "blank." It most
likely contains one or more empty paragraphs. Look for these in your mail
merge main document by displaying nonprinting characters (press Ctrl+* or
click the Show/Hide ¶ button on the Standard toolbar). In the case of
labels, Jezebel may have hit on the answer: if you have (or have ever had if
this is Word 2002 or 2003) a header or footer in Normal.dot, this will
affect the alignment of labels.

Thank you both for your assistance. I always work with non-printing characters showing. I opened my normal.dot and reduced headers and footers to zero. I still had the problem after doing this, so muddled around and made a change to my Page Setup/Margins after noticing that the Pages were set to "mirror margins" (probably by the person who I originally job-shared with). I changed this to "normal" and now it works like a charm.
