Merging Two Hosts Files

Okay, I want to update my current Hosts file by merging it with a more
recent one. I'd like a program that will eliminate the dup entries.

I took a look at Hostess and it seemed waaay to complicated for what I
wanted to do.

So I guess I don't want a Hosts file manager per se, I simply want a way to
eliminate dup entries in a large text file. Is there an easy way to do
this?

TIA

Have a look here... http://www.abelhadigital.com/
There's 1.2 or 2.0 beta "Hostsman".
This is the most unobtrusive I've found. Regular HOSTS updates.

I do this by moving all the URLs (except 127.0.0.1 localhost, which must
stay at the top) into one NoteTab file. Then click Modify > Lines > Sort >
Ascending. This will put all the URLs into alphabetical order with duplicate
lines removed. Then return the sorted lines to the host file.

Hello,

Modify > Lines > Sort > Ascending. This will put all the URLs
into alphabetical order with duplicate lines removed.

you should mention, settings must be changed first for removal
of dups. [View > Options > Tools > Sort Removes Duplicates]
I wasn't aware of this option till you mentioned this function
here.

Thanks for this, Thorsten. I was unaware that there was an option to not
remove duplicates, plus other variations. On my copy removal seemed to be
the default, and I only found by accident that dups were removed. NoteTab is
one of those programs in which there is always something new to be found.

Excellent. Exactly what I was looking for.

Even better than Notestablite for my purposes. It's simple, direct and
practically one-click operation. Many thanks.
