Merged cells

Column A1 adds the value of Column B1,C1,D1 and E1
Column A2 adds the value of Column B2,C2,D2 and E2

Now if I merge Column B1 and B2, How do I get column A1 and A2 to recognise
that B1 & B2 are now merged, and that they should get the value from the
merged cell?

What is the problem? Don't do an add in A2.
