merged cells

hello,

is there a way to merge cells without losing the data in each individual cell?

i have a formula that i want to drag across into other cells. however one of
the cells i am referring to is a merge of two cells in the same row (A1 and
B1 have been merged and the data is now in A1). weirdly the formula still
refers to the cell B1 even though I cannot access it.

i either want the formula refer to A1, C1,E1 etc as I drag & paste OR I want
o be able to store data in 2 parts of a merged cell.

any ideas?

No not that I am aware of. Even a macro will not enter data into the
right side of two merged cells. Only the left side of the merged group
of cells will retain data. The reference to cell B1 will return a 0
value. You need to change the reference to A1 where the value is. You
should be able to drag merged cells with formulas in them the same as
any other cells with formulas.
Note when dragging merged cells over unmerged cells, the unmerged cells
will become merged. You cannot drag unmerged cells over merged cells.
If that is what you are trying to do, unmerge the cells first, drag
them to where you need to go and then remerge them.

Hope this helps.
