Merge with Word losing zip code forward "0"

I am merging an Excel sheet with addresses into a label
Word document. Many of my zip codes begin with 0s. No
matter how I format the excel zip code cell (tried zip
code, text, general, number, and some customs) the final
merged document has all the leading 0s missing.
Thanks in advance for any help.
