Merge field format

I regularly merge from Access to Word documents that I've created (I should
mention that I'm self-taught in Access and consider myself a novice) and am
having trouble with one merge document in particular - that refuses to take
the Long Date field format I've set in the Access field.

Anything I can do?

Seems to me it was in Database 101 that it was said the formats are set in
the display application. In this case in Word.
