Menus Disappear - very frustrating

I've run into a problem with menus on various applications. On an
increasingly (and annoyingly) frequent basis, when I click on an
application's menus, the dropdown menu list will flash, then disappear. This
seems to start when I'm running Excell 2003. Once the problem starts, even
the Start button has the same problem! Shutting down can be a problem!

It appears that I can remedy the problem for a short while by pressing the
Alt key. Bu the problem returns.

I'm suspicious about Excel and maybe some VBA scripts - but can't see why
this should happen; my scripts are very simple and straightforward.

Any ideas on solving the porblem. Is there a conflict somewhere? I've been
thinking about trying a "tweaking" tool.

It depends. The first place I would check is your menu speed indicator.
