memory

c I use two different kinds of memory as far as I have 2 sticks of 2100DDR
memory and also have two sticks of 3700DDR mem. would these work together
increasing my total RAM to 1 gig of mem ( by the way each stick is 256 mb
ddr) so basicly it would be like 2X 256 3700ddr=512 + 2X
256 2100ddr =512 so 512+512= 1 gig would this work or would the
different speed of ram's be uncompatible my mother board is an ASUS PB400
with 4 slots it works with either the speeds but wanted to seee if I
could get 1 get using all 4 even though there are different sdeeds working
\|Thanks

It most likely will work, for increasing memery, however you may be limited
to the slowest memory stick speed, this may not be a problem, just be aware

Unless the RAM all matches in all factors except size, it
often won't boot.

Also Windows has some highly critical timing loops that are calibrated
to the RAM. If these get shifted into a module with different
characteristics (even ones nominally the same) you can get system
crashes. So give them a try, but if it is troublesome make do with less
but reliable

Thanks gents, I have mixed memory in the past 486 boards, and not experienced
problems, these faster boards do change things, and make for more demanding
choices.

FWIW if you put fast memory in the 0 slot and slower memory in the 1
slot in the old MB's you would frequently get wierd lockups in programs.
This was solved by putting the slowest memory in the first slot and then
the memory timing was no longer an issue.
