Why ask HERE?? This is a purely hardware question and has no business
HERE. Look in your mainboard manual, take it to a shop to have them
look at it, but basically...

Ask elsewhere

Why have a go at him for asking in a hardware newsgroup?
I know that it is not completely on topic, but is relatively close enough.
I never understand why people have to flame for this sort of thing! If it is
totally off topic I can understand and would totally agree.
You have to remember that some ISPs do not cover all the newsgroups, so my
alternative (see below) may not be present in his list. If this is the only
newsgroup that came up when he searched for hardware, then so be it.

To the OP.
Try the alt.comp.hardware.homebuilt newsgroup, which is more on topic for
your sort of question.

Paul, help me out here. I think your reply (and others from you I have
seen
on this same site) is a bit caustic considering this is the public XP
HARDWARE Newsgroup designed to help people resolve problems.

Where else would anyone ask a "purely hardware" related question? If
someone (probably not a computer expert) blunders into the wrong Newsgroup,
couldn't you be a little more civilized in your response than saying "Why
ask HERE" and "Ask elsewhere?"

What am I missing?

What you are missing is a kill file for this net Nazi. There is no
problem with your post, only with this person who only criticizes
other's posts while offering nothing of value. This is an old problem
and unfortunately there is nothing that can be done but to ignore his posts.

Ok, I've got it. Thank you sir. I guess there are AH's when you least
expect them. He's toast on my machine.

I assume that gursaranabott (who made the original post) and I are correct
that this is the place for hardware questions on a WinXP computer?

Yes, of course. And if there's a better place to ask a specific question,
we'll suggest it (like a motherboard forum for instance) - not to be mean
or excluding but only to get you to the best place to get help. But you
should feel welcome to post hardware questions here. This Paul person (who
used to post the identical garbage under the name "No Consequence") is just
a troll and as Mr. Ryder said, you should ignore him. The nicest thing we
can say about him is that he is probably ill. That doesn't mean you have to
pay any attention to him, though.

I'm not your Daddy or Teacher. Find your own damn newsgroups. You'll
learn more about doing it that way.

Further, this is not a "Site" but a newsgroup. Look at the title as
well and you'll notice it contains WINDOWS XP as well as HARDWARE.
Anybody smart enough to pour pee out of a boot should be able to
figure out that posts here must have something to do with BOTH, and
this OP does not.

Finally, responses go DOWN HERE, top poster.
