I might get corrected however most workstations can't hold as much ram as
Windows XP Pro can use. I have 4gig and I really never even get close to
using it all. But that is the standard config at work.
It all depends on what the computer is running.. a stand alone running MS
Word uses not a great deal.. a server connected to and servicing 30
workstations will use a whole lot more..
The maximum amount of RAM that Windows XP can use is 4 gb.
How much RAM is used and how much is "waisted" depends on how the
computer is being used. For some users even 1 gb of RAM is more than
is normally needed and therefore any installed RAM in excess of that
might be considered as wasted. For other users, even the maximum 4 gb
of RAM is not enough for the work they are doing and more RAM would be
beneficial.
