Memory usage with svchost.exe?

Hi folks --

I'm having trouble with an odd crash that seems to start when svchost.exe
jumps from 25Mb to 80 or 100Mb in memory usage.

Process Explorer tells me which dll's are operating through svchost.exe, but
is there anything that will tell me the amount of memory being used by each
dll? I'd like to see which one is potentially going nuts and trashing my
session.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

P.S. The crash is intermittent and seems to gradually corrupt video and
working memory, some symptoms are: Font corruption in Firefox, "xxx is not a
valid Windows application" errors, the "Start" button goes blank, "could not
initialize window" errors, and graphics start going to pieces. Yes, I've
upgraded video drivers, done hardware tests, etc. The question above is just
one part of what I think will be a long diagnosis process...

Try Process Monitor or Process Explorer to see the SVCHOST processes in full
detail.

Also scan your computer for possible spyware or virus infections. Install
Adaware SE or Spybot Search & Destroy or both for better detection of
spyware and install The Cleaner antitrojan in case you have to.

Anti-Spyware & Anti-Trojan download sites.

Also check the Event Viewer to see if it can help ID what makes svchost run
high on CPU usage.

there was a posting
a few days ago where
a problem was resolved
by renaming that svchost.exe
file....
