Memory trouble. Please HELP!

I have had 2 GB of memory up to now now (4 sticks of 512MB installed in
slots 1,4 and 2,5 respectively). I just bought two more 512 sticks from Geil
and installed them in the remaining slots 3 and 6. My system can't see this
new memory. So I took out all the memory sticks and just put the new sticks
in the slots 1 and 3. The system showed 1 GB of memory, so I know the new
sticks are not defective. That leads me to think that the slots 3 and 6, and
not the new memory, are defective. Am I correct in my conclusion? Can I
remedy this problem somehow?
Thanks.

The mother board is about 4 years old Gigabyte 8KNXP 2d revision.

Sounds like the new memory doesn't like the old memory. You should always
try to get the same manufacturer and specs... So I suggest either returning
the new Geil and try to find RAM that duplicates what you have already or
dumping the old RAM and buying two more Geil sticks.

Leave the new memory in slots 1,4 (since you said this works ok) and install
2 of the older memory stick in slots 2,5 and see if you are able to see 2GB
total ram. Also see if your BIOS has any memory timing options that you can
change, if so set the timing to conservative (slower values).

Everybody, thanks a lot. I've just figured it out. I have to have four SS
memory modules and only two DS modules if I want to have 3 GB memory in this
motherboard.
