Memory Question

I have dual channel memory. 4 slots to put memory and I install them in
pairs. So I put the memory with the lower latency in DIMM 0 (channel A and
B) and the higher latency in DIMM 1 (Channel A and B). Does it make sense
for me to assume that Windows will use DIMM 0 first and when it fills up
moves on to DIMM 1, therefore using the lower latency memory first?

Also, can someone recommend a forum geared towards general hardware
questions like this? Or maybe a chart explaining some things about memory
performance. I'm wondering when and how I will get noticeable performance
benefits in XP from different latencies.

You wont notice any difference anyway. These days, assuming a modern pc,
the way to notice real pc speed increases is to use faster rpm hard
drives, assuming you have adequate ram to minimize page file usage.

I've heard otherwise. What about using memory intesive applications? Like
software samplers - banks of .wav files are loaded into memory and triggered
by a MIDI controller. Or what about video gaming with high quality graphics
and drawing distances and viewing other opponents set to high values?

Well I dont know what you "heard". But I did _specifically_ say
"assuming you have adequate ram to minimize page file usage". Which
pretty much says it all. ie it takes ram out of the speed question. So
we're left with the bottleneck, ie the HDD. Assuming again, a modern pc
with a hot cpu.
