sometimes when i start up my computer it'll only recognize
384 out of 512 mb of my ram. i then have to switch the
memory around different slots until it recognizes all 512.
i'm sure other people have had the same problem so is this
a hardware problem or can it be fixed w/out getting new
parts?

Make sure that if you have an onboard graphics card, that may be using
up some of the memory for its own use.
Otherwise make sure all memory is 'securely' fitted into their slots.
