Memory problem.

Hope someone can help. The other day I started my PC and after the post
screen it stopped on a blank screen, no error message but unable to load
windows.

The problem didn't change until I removed one of my memory modules (from
slot 3), and from then windows loaded up fine.
I've tried different combinations but it seems the only combination which
works is using a single stick, and it must to be on slot 1.

1+3 (which I had previously used with no problem) causes the blank screen
after post, and a combination with slot 2 causes repeating long beeps with
no post at all.

I've tested each stick individually on slot 1 and they both work fine. I'm
assuming this means it's not a memory fault, could it be a problem with the
motherboard?

The mem is 2x crucial 512MB DDR400
AMD64 3000, Msi Neo K8N Nforce3 Motherboard socket 754

I undated the motherboard bios a few weeks back with no problems, but could
a bios update cause problem later on in time?

Apologies if I've missed any out any other important technical info

Many thanks

reset the memory timings to something 'easier' on them...or just reset the
cmos to 'defaults'

Go to your bios and change the CAS to 3 and the voltage to 2.60 for
the RAM, Memory combinations can be found for your board at this link:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=572
You may also want to run memtest on the RAM.
A BIOS update changes your setup and has to be reconfigured to work
properly with your hardware. Find your motherboard manual and read.
