Memory Problem

This problem started about a month ago. I have two games that I play which
are not exiting memory when I shut that game off. I am playing World Of
Warcraft over the internet, and a bargain basement game called Just Aces
(not internet play). After shutting either of these off, I cannot access the
internet until I use Ctrl-Alt-Delete to find and shut down the *.exe file
for the game. They will not be on the first tab but the seconds tab with all
other processes. After shutting them off this way, computer works normally.

Anyone know what is wrong with my system?

Sorry if I seem dense, but could you be a little more specific? Which Cache
and How do I clear it?

Thanks Chuck

Since they are internet games that would be the folder(s) where your
browser(s) keep their temporary files. The location depends, most
often, on the browser you are using to play the intenet games.

Humm. Let me re-read my first message....
Yep, I clearly said that one game is not an internet game.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Chuck

For IE's Temporary Files, go to Control Panel>Internet Options>General
tab. You'll see where you can delete cookies and files. For Firefox,
clear its cache by going to Tools>Options>Privacy>Cache> Clear. For
Windows Temporary files, Start>Run cleanmgr [enter]. To clear Sun
Java's cache, Start>Settings>Control Panel>Java applet>Cache>Clear or
follow the same path to the Java applet and then to
General>Settings>Delete files.

I've checked with my son who is a Level 60 Shaman on WOW and he says
your issue is not one that other WOW-gamers are experiencing. In light
of the fact that you have the same problem when exiting from your other
non-Internet game, it has to be something on your computer that is
causing this. I'm not convinced that your cache is the issue, but it
can't hurt to do this.

You say this has been going on for a few months. I know that is a long
time period, but did anything change? Update any hardware or software?
Is the computer virus/malware-free? Malware can certainly cause havoc
with Internet connectivity and it uses up system resources. If you
haven't done any malware scanning lately, it wouldn't hurt. Here are
some general removal steps:

In addition to all of that, check Event Viewer for clues to see if you
can pinpoint what is failing. Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

Just a followup to share information with the newsgroup.

Checking the Microsoft help system, I found that this is a known problem
with an event ID of 1517. Where certain services don't release access to
memory, or the registry. They have a fix program located at the following
link.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;837115&sd=ee

The program is called UPHClean, for User Profile Hive Cleanup Service.

Thanks all for your help.
