Memory Problem.

I just upgraded my computer to WinXP Pro, and ran into the
problem of not having enough memory. Although I've read
that 256MB of RAM is enough, apparently it was not. I
went up to 448MB yesterday and I'm still having problems.
My problems include the low memory error messages, windows
not showing up on the taskbar, and certain programs that
use Java not being able to be used. I've adjusted the
virtual memory with a minimum of the recommended 670MB and
a maximum of 768MB. What can I do to get my computer to
work properly?

Jay, check for virus, trojans, spyware and adware. You can use these
sites. Did you mix and match your Ram?

I got my computer to work for a short time a few weeks
ago, and no viruses or spyware were found. There's no way
to get any on there now because I don't have a way to
connect to the internet from that computer.

What did you upgrade from? You may have to do a clean install.
