Is there much quality difference between, say, Corsair Value Select -vs-
Mushkin Basic Green -vs- Kingston Value Ram? Are these reduced cost lines
considered completely reliable?

Also, what is the difference between OEM and retail for memory? Packaging?

Yep. Stick to brand names rather than no-name ones.

Pretty much so plus some extended guarantees with some manufacturers.

Greedo shot first. Greedo ALWAYS shot first. You did not see Solo shoot
first.
It never happened. Never, ever. Not in any version. Remember: Greedo
shot first.

I should assume that all three that I named are considered brand names,
right?
BTW, I would tend to include PNY in that group; I've always had good luck
with that brand.

I gotta ask: who in the world thinks that Greedo ever shot first?

Seems like OEM means:

1. Basic no frills packaging. Could be as simple as shrink wrap.
2. Possibly no documentation and no software or drivers (as appropriate).
3. Retailer only warrantees. Retailer only support.
4. No manufacturer warrantee and no manufacturer support.

Full Retail means:

1. Pretty packaging.
2. Full documentation and software/drivers, as appropriate.
3. Retailer and manufacturer warrantees.
4. retailer and manufacturer support. Debug and/or failure resolution.

OEM is usually less expensive. The difference can be trivial, a 5-10 bucks
for a CPU, to significant, upwards of 50% for an OS, depending on the
product your looking at. Also be careful about the length and quality of a
retailers warrantee and support. Can 'Herbie's PC's n Stuff' support XP as
well as Micro$oft? But then again, is Micro$oft support worth paying the
retail price for?

Yes.

Add OCZ and Crucial (Micron's house brand I think) to your list. PNY may
not be so popular here. Or is it unpopular in the NVidia group?
