Memory not showing correctly

I have XP pro, and just today I added an additional 2G to my mother board.

The motherboard BIOS sees the 4G correctly, but XP only reports 2.88G

What is the problem???

I have moved the memory around in the slots, and that did not change anything.

I have reset the BIOS, but that too did not do anyting.

Can anyone offer any other suggestions as to why XP in the System panel only
shows 2.88G?

Many thanks.

All 32-bit versions of Windows, even though they have a 4GB address
space, can only use *around* 3.1GB of RAM. That's because some of that
space is used by hardware and not available to the operating system
and applications. The amount you can use varies, depending on what
hardware you have installed, but is usually around 3.1GB. But I've
seen numbers as high as 3.5GB.

Win 2003 32bit Server family "sees" the 4GB jfyi.
As does 32 Bit Server 2008
CreateWindow

Bummer......

Thanks!

You're welcome. Sorry to have provided bad news.

On the other hand, very people run applications that can make
effective use of so much RAM under XP anyway. Chances are you would
see no performance increase if you could use the rest of the RAM.
