Maybe you need more RAM...2 GB or more
is not a bad idea when working with video.

A system usually performs best when the
hard drive is at least 50% free space.

Disconnecting from the net, and closing
other programs...especially virus scanners
can help. And don't multi-task...even playing
Solitaire can waste the resources you need
for working with video.

Increasing the size of your Virtual Memory
Paging File may help...read the following

Doing some maintenance may help:

Running Disk Cleanup, Error Checking and
Defrag on a regular schedule is a good idea.

(check the two boxes..."Automatically fix file
system errors" and "Scan for and attempt

the next time you restart your computer.
(run error checking repeatedly until it finds
no errors)

Not really a video question, eh?

Get familiar with Windows Task Manager, Ctrl-Alt-Del should
fetch it to the screen for you.
On the process tab select view, then click "Select Columns"
Check off: CPU Usage, Memory Usage, Peak Memory Usage, Virtual
Memory Size, And GDI Objects.

I strongly suspect that the warning is coming from GDI Object
abuse by whatever program you were running for "prolonged
downloading." If it is the case, closing the abusive program
will restore the GDI Objects it was hoarding.

GDI Objects have finite memory (a resident OS table) and
programs are supposed to utilize an entry there while graphics
are on screen then relinquish their entry when the graphic is
"closed." There are a few programs with GDI bugs which cause
the table to become full - the OS actually warns of the error
some time before the table is filled, but does nothing to the
violator. The table holds 64K entries but never approaches that
number in reality except for buggy programs.

Windows Task Manager can be helpful in identifying the culprit
as you will see an extraordinary value in that column GDI when
compared with other programs. Also, an occasional glance at
this column will shed some light on any program which is not
relinquishing its used resources - you'll see the value
continuously growing while the process is running.
