I often get the following error message, which I don't understand:

The instruction at "0x77124912" referenced memory at "0x03e60ea8". The memor
could not be "read".

How can I understand and fix this?

Hi Rusty,

You need to provide more information. What exactly are you doing at the
time you receive this message? Are you on the web, clicking on a link,
opening/closing an app. ?

Please post a complete copy of the Error Report.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer.
Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Have you recently added RAM memory?

Curt..........It typically occurs when I am running Internet Explorer or
Outlook Express (OE). The error sometimes occurs when performing a function
like unsubscribing to emails from OE, or sometimes when I'm shutting-down my
system at the end of the day.

Does this help?

Cheers,
Rusty

Gerry........I don't know how to attach a copy of the screen-print or paste
it. This email feature isn't available here.

Cheers,
Rusty

Gerry.....See if this works. Here are 2 error messages. I'm guessing as to
which one is the guilty one. I don't see the same error codes in these as I
reported in my original post.

Those error reports relate to the same error.. The Event ID 1000
report is the original report and Event ID 1001 is called a matching
event. If you click on the link in the Event ID: 1001 report it will
open and it may give suggestions as to how to remedy the error. Please
post a copy.

Using Google and searching on "Fault bucket 128305315" I found your
post and one in a Forum on the web . The experts in the forum
diagnosed that the in built graphics in the users computer needed to
be replaced with a new graphics card with an enhanced capability to
run a game that prompted the problem. The fault bucket was buried in a
mass of detail and it was not obvious what was the basis of the
"experts" conclusion. On my own computer I have been told I need a
separate graphics card to run Aero in Vista, if I wish to dual boot
Vista with Windows XP. I suspect better graphics could be an issue
many will have to face using an older computer in future, not that
mine is very old.

Microsoft allocate fault bucket numbers for all faults reported and
where it is commonly reported it is investigated. One reported fault
is unlikely to be investigated so Microsoft will leave you to find
your own solution. As you have noted neither these two reports match
the information in your original post. This means you may have one or
two problems. I can't say without a copy of the other report, which
may appear in the system log; the two reports you have copied here
come from the Application log. Have another look and see what you can
find.

Another important point is the need not to over react to an error. In
isolation individual errors should be ignored. It is when they occur
regularly, especially after a computer has been rebooted, that they
take on a greater significance,

Are you using any programmes requiring a significant graphics
capabiility? If you are into gaming look at the system requirements
for the game and compare them to what you
have.
