Hi,

If you want to check the memory, there is a free program here:
http://www.simmtester.com/page/products/doc/download.asp

But keep in kind that a thorough test can only be done with test equipment
at a computer shop.

Hmm, I've yet to see a computer shop that has a proper memory tester (at
several hundred K$, going on a few M$, depending on what sort of
throughput you want). Most of the shops I know just run simmtester, or
memtest86 (or just swap it out for known good modules).

Actually I think memtest86 (from, as someone already said,
www.memtest86.com) is =better= than most stand alone hardware SIMM/DIMM
testers, because it actually tests the memory in the 'usage' environment
- yes, you may see errors which are not (strictly speaking) down to the
DIMM itself, but caused by low DIMM voltage, lousy motherboard timing,
motherboard cross-talk, or flaky CPU buffers, and memory which fails in
one motherboard may 'work' in another one .. but all the PC user really
cares about is 'am I getting memory errors in MY PC', which is what
these test programs tell you.

I haven't downloaded this yet but it sounds a bit complicated for an average
user like me??? Is it just download run and report? Or, do I manipulate many
different operations?
Thanks

Okay...Thank You very much...I'll do it!

Download, execute (which builds a bootable floppy), set your PC to boot
from the floppy, and go away for several hours .. overnight is good. 8>.
If you want to know =exactly= what failed then you will have some
reading to do at the website, but for most users pass/fail is all they
care about. If your memory passes, you can be 99%+ confident that it
really isn't causing a problem in everyday use.
