Memory Config P4P800

Hi all,

I have put together a P4 ystem with this mainboard and I get a rather
puzzling message at bootup.
In the system are 2 512Mb corsair 3200Pro matched pair modules giving 1024Mb
in Dual channel setup.(bank 0 and 2 used)

When going through Post I get the following message

1024Mb DDR400, DUAL CHANNEL, LINEAR MODE

The first two are easy ;) but now for the million dollar question:

What does LINEAR MODE refer to: what does it mean, what other modes are there
and should I really be seeing another mode. If so , how would I go about
getting the memory to use another mode.....

I think you get the drift... Any MemGurus outthere with an explanation??

Thnx Guys

Willem

That's the mode you want.

Probably that its addressing both channels, in a linear fashion, starting at
the same bank/end of the DIMM, going to the other.
what other modes are there

Dunno about your P4P800, but if its similar to the P4C800-E, then you can
also get:

DDR Frequency xxxMhz, Dual-Channel, Linear Mode
DDR Frequency xxxMhz, Single-Channel or Virtual Single-Channel
and should I really be seeing another mode.

Umm, if you had one stick, I think you would get the Single Channel msg...
not sure.

Dont ;) Yours is running at the proper rate/mode for a 800fsb processor.

There is an Intel document here - this is the memory guide for
875 or 865 type chipsets. It doesn't explain everything you might
want to know, but it is a start:

ftp://download.intel.com/design/chipsets/applnots/25273001.pdf
